 I remembered that I did this activity with Jenni when she was four so I thought it would be fun to do with Joshua now that he is four!

Funnel Fun

This activity comes from Slow and Steady, Get Me Ready by June R. Oberlander. The handbook provides weekly activities to correspond to the developmental patterns of each age group from birth to age five.

This week Joshua did the activity "Funnel Fun." The activity involved a funnel, measuring cup, glass bottle and a tub of rice.  Joshua placed the funnel in the glass bottle, scooped rice into the funnel and watched the rice fill the bottle. He especially loved pouring out the bottle once it was filled. He was delighted with all the colors of rice, scooping, pouring and exploring!
(Joshua is 1 year, 42 weeks)

 We used our colored rice from this activity.

This activity develops an awareness of how to pour and fill a container, an awareness of "empty" through free exploration, eye-hand coordination, and tactile enhancement.

Finger Painting Can Be Fun

We are enjoying Slow and Steady, Get Me Ready by June R. Oberlander. The handbook provides weekly activities to correspond to the developmental patterns of each age group from birth to age five.

This week Joshua did the activity "Finger Painting Can Be Fun." I placed washable paint on a large piece of paper and taped it on the table. Joshua enjoyed moving and sliding his fingers and hands across the paper.
(Joshua is 1 year, 39 weeks)

Jenni loves painting so she joined in on the fun :)

 

This activity develops free exploration, creativity, fine motor control, more awareness of "wet," "dry" and "slippery," independence and confidence.

Listen and Name

We are really enjoying Slow and Steady, Get Me Ready by June R. Oberlander. The handbook provides weekly activities to correspond to the developmental patterns of each age group from birth to age five.

This week Jenni did the activity "Listen and Name." The activity involved listening, thinking and responding verbally. This is a good traveling or quiet game that can enrich the child's language development and thinking process.
